History
Oh my sweet Pancakes. This girl came into my life in 2002 when I was in 3rd grade. I had been begging my parents for a dog and so you know what my dad does? He goes and finds a stray dog from South Korea that needed a home and flies her over to the United States so we can adopt her. I was SO beyond excited to finally have a dog. The first day we got her, I went to say hi and she bit me so hard that I was bleeding. My dad wanted to get rid of her instantly but I cried and told him to give me one week. That week, I didn't touch her once. I fed her with gloves on and just sat with her while she growled from her dog house. But after slowly gaining her trust, she let me pet her and our bond started right there. Pancakes lived outside for most of her life. She would get anxious in the house and my parents never believed in "indoor dogs". So she would only come inside for brief times and spend the winters in the garage. However she preferred to be outside and kept my grandma company while she gardened. I wanted to name her Lady from Lady and the Tramp but my family gave her a Korean name. Her official name is Eepoonee which means pretty in Korean. I was sick and tired of explaining to everyone what her name was so I gave her an unofficial English name Pancakes. My friend suggested the name after seeing her "pancake" on the cement when she was hot and tired.

This dog has been through it all with me. All through primary school and when I left for my freshman year in college, she got really depressed every time I would come home to visit and leave since I couldn't have her in the dorms. Once I moved out of to my apartment, I brought her with me and she has lived the spoiled princess life ever since.

Pancakes has always been a healthy dog. I think she's only had a handful of ear infections in her life and she had a grade 1 luxating patella. However, in late 2016, she was diagnosed with lung and heart disease and given maybe another year or so to live. That last year of her life I gave her everything and made her as comfortable as possible. She was deaf and going blind but that did not stop us from taking a million photos and enjoying the time we had left together. She celebrated her 16th birthday and moved to Vancouver, WA with us in summer of 2017. In September, I went back to Pullman to visit my sister and the moment we got there, Pancakes had a seizure and I took her to the emergency room. She had gone into heart failure and they weren't sure if she was even going to survive the night. She stayed in the ER all weekend in an oxygen chamber but I had to make the very hard choice of determining if her quality of life would be good enough if she got discharged. We made the decision to give her one last good day in Pullman before she was put to rest.

This dog was my everything. She stole the hearts of the people she met. She was probably the worlds worst dog and she really hated everyone unless you gave her food. One thing that never changed from the moment she first bit me was her undying love for me. Pancakes was the most loyal soul that I will ever find in my lifetime. My heart hurts just typing this and I wish she was still here to keep my lap warm and lull me to sleep with her snoring. I know we will meet again soon.
